As far as the soccer game is concerned there are totally 11 positions allotted to the players but in general they are sort out in to 4 divisions. For games which are taking part in at a lower level the number of place may perhaps transform but in the big ones the positions do not vary.

Internet has made our lives easier, so searching for the best
sports equipment is not an issue unless and until you know certain tactics. Basically, people tend to buy a product that stands out for quality coupled with durability. So when you are looking out for something that is quite costlier make sure whether it has that ability to stand long for that worth you are paying.
There are two imperative techniques that have to be used effectively to perform well and it includes:
  • Spin technique or rotational technique
  • Glide technique

The
rotational or spin technique of shot put is a highly developed one and it is commonly cracked by the connoisseurs in the sport. When it comes to this technique, the one throwing the shot has to rest his leading leg at the center of the ring. The other leg should move back and forth and the person should spin the body when it is placed in the ground, the other leg reiterates the same process. After this the player flings off the shot.

Today at gym, IPL was going on the treadmill screen that I had got on and that I saw cheerleaders and that then thought of reading more about them since the little IPL that I've seen including due to being very busy, I've mostly seen international girls and that some weeks ago a girl at a dance school in Delhi had asked the salsa dance teacher whether he could help her work at IPL as a cheerleader on which I had also told her that I could try to find for her on how she could perhaps do that but that we didn't interact since then because I haven't been able to go to that dance school since then including due to being very busy.

It's awesome that we've international girls including due to reasons mentioned in the article and that I wish that besides from a few nations mentioned in the article, even girls from North America and other parts of Europe and also Asia come to India as cheerleaders! There're several things of value mentioned in the article http://post.jagran.com/three-cheers-for-indian-culture-say-ipls-foreign-cheerleaders-1334241437 I also wish that several Indian girls if they want to then get awesome opportunities like these including internationally to perform as cheerleaders at top sporting events! From the little cheer-leading that I've seen in IPL, I do think that much higher quality professionals can also be brought in since cheer-leading itself is a sport with a lot of advanced moves and sequences and that one can watch high quality cheer-leading videos online. I wish that IPL would help with the same including to help the interested girls in India to advance in this as a sport! Best! Shakti Saran

Goals ... Are they for you or somebody else?

Last night I was teaching my normal kid's class in a small gym not far from my home. Sometime during the class, there was a girl who looked at me with an "amazed" look & said "Your belt is black!!!". To her I responded "Yep, several times over" & walked toward her.

Now... let me stop here to clarify things. First it's not a belt, but a silk sash with a red tassel on the ends. It was my teacher's & he gave it to me when he retired, unfortunately too recently in my book. Now, the fact it's black with a red tassel means exactly... nothing. It just so happens it's the colors of his school. His was black & red. We as students wore red sashes with black tassels. This was simply discern to the public, who was the teacher & who wasn't. In that vein of thought, in traditional Chinese martial arts, there are no "belts" to signify rank or anything like that. That is originally a Japanese creation by Kano Jigoro, founder of Judo.

Now it has been run marvelously amok by the Western mind & sense of need for visual accomplishment, especially with parents & their kids in a class. As I previously stated, we wore sashes the colors of the school. I knew who the students senior to me were & the students junior to me as well. We ALL knew who the teacher was immediately on walking in the school on the first day.

When I was "promoted" to a teacher's level, it was over the phone with my teacher. It was him making sure my students addressed me appropriately. I thought to myself after the call ... "I made it!!". A goal was reached & a new level to work on & at.

But now... who was that goal for? Me? My students? My peers?

Back to last night... As I walked toward I started untying my sash. I wrapped it about 3 times around her waist & tied it off. I looked at her half grinning & said "Now you're a black sash too!! Get back to working on your kicks..." and left the sash on her for the rest of the class. After I dismissed the class for the evening & she came of to return my sash, I asked if it made a difference & helped her learn any faster or better. She grinned & said no. She left with a grin & the other kids were giggling at her for wearing my sash.

Those "goals" we all set... are they truly for ourselves or are they subconsciously for everybody else around us to see us "reach a level".

Achieved goals are for everybody else. Goals are for people to view your progress. Your own personal progress should be just simply continue the forward progress in a given area. As an example, you achieve a PhD in a field. That PhD says you have reached a level in "X" to the public. To you that means you have continued on a road that you intended to go down anyway. You may take pride in knowing you have achieved it & rightfully so along with professional recognition & reward, but truly who notices?

Goals are great. Levels are great. Keep your self in check & keep going own that path. Your reward is personal success in continuing the journey. The people around you benefit from your knowledge & experience. Encourage them down your path, guide them on the way, enjoy watching them grow as you once did, now as a mentor rather than novice.

Tie your black belt & move along. It makes it easy for everybody else.

Gym, Republic Day (India) [26th Jan 2012]

My post and some comments on my Facebook
https://www.facebook.com/slateandchalk.net/posts/331206503579241

Shakti Saran

Our apartment's president is a nice leader. I went to my gym in C.P., however, when I reached there, it was closed with a notice that today it would close at 5pm. I returned and that saw some people in the apartment's park. One of them called me to help setup the park (decorate with flags etc.) for the Republic Day function. I said that I'm very busy and that I would rather hire helpers do this and that tell them what to do. They did have some helpers but I saw the President going along with a helper giving the flag at appropriate distance from each other to be stapled to a ribbon hung across the park. I told the president that a Prime Minister and a President would've others setup the parade, however, my conscience says that I should help even if a bit and so I helped our apartment's president with stapling the flags. Then the president had to leave and that then I left as well and that I also complimented the president of being a nice leader. I also said that I haven't done such probably in a very long while and that I'm so used to doing most everything with my computer including generating related ideas but not doing things like such. If I hadn't gone to the gym then most likely I wouldn't have got this opportunity! Moreover, the person who called me to help setup the park, I asked where're the person's children on which the person responded that they're in the apartment. Perhaps, they're busy and that I would've also been but then I got this opportunity!

P. A. likes this.

Shakti Saran Thank You P. A.!

P. A. Infact I also like doing same kind of work, but never got an opportunity to do this.

Shakti Saran

Hi P. A., That's alright if you haven't got such an opportunity yet. Many times, things just happen and that one should try to make the best of whatever that happens and that which I think can best happen when the person also has a positive mindset. So, besides our knowledge, skills, experience, and anything else, we should also have a positive mindset for when such opportunities arrive. I wish that you would get all the opportunities that you wish for! Of course, what you do with the opportunities would depend on several things, however, I wish that you would always keep a positive mindset! Also, just like the President and the Prime Minister might not directly setup the parade, they still do work and that at their level. I wish that you would give your best to the work at your level and that I also wish that you would keep getting the opportunities that you wish for. Best! Shakti Saran

Bugger that word... perfect. Perfect is a state of mind. How about rather than focusing on that, let's look at the first two words... Self Discipline.

Self discipline is the driving force to practice. You have to be willing to focus on achieving and surpassing your goals and nothing else when engaged in the practice. Everybody has their passion. For me, martial arts fills that gap. I've been at it now for over 30 years. At this point honestly self discipline has gone a bit lax. I practice now because it's what I do, but the only time my self discipline to train really kicks in is when I'm doing something new. The material I teach is so engrained in my mind and body... I admit, I slip a bit.

BUT... on the new stuff to learn and do... ooooohhhhh... razor focus comes back, hard edged training mentality surfaces. Nothing else matters except what I am doing exactly at that moment.

Last night in my Chen Taiji Quan class, that showed up happily again. After performing warm ups and a bit of tui shou (Push hands), we performed the Yi Lu (first road or form) routine. We picked two movements to practice. There's a total of four motions. So for the next 90 minutes, I gladly & happily did four motions. Over. And over. And over. Then we grabbed a partner practiced for a while longer.

I left sweaty, a little sore and feeling more fulfilled than when I walked in. Was it an endorphin dump? Yeah sure. Was it self centered accomplishment? Yep. You betcha. Was a light cardio workout? Got that too... More than anything, it was the overriding sense of self discipline radiating. That sense of right then, right there, my focus and determination to do a thing was sharper and more pointed than any other time during my day. I could have done anything, literally anything, better than I normally could at that time.

Now the next thing to do... increase that self discipline arena to more than just one aspect of daily life.

But as with everything practiced... ONE STEP AT A TIME!

Hi All,

Yesterday someone mentioned to some people that he wants to get motivated back into the LESMILLS BODYCOMBAT class and that he had been highly regular with it before. I mentioned that he could've hit a plateau and that then shared some things on which someone else mentioned that whether I had a read a book because what I was mentioning was very similar to the book. I told him that I haven't, however, I had once hit a plateau and that then my martial arts teacher had shared about it with me on which I've thought and worked on by myself since then. One thing of difference between the book and me according to the person was that I had mentioned that when in a plateau, be in and enjoy it and also try to come out of it simultaneously whereas the book didn't mention about coming out of it simultaneously. The person mentioned that he would scan and send me the pages of the book which mentions plateau which is very kind of him and that I gave him my card having my www.personalfoldersoftware.com web-site on it for my contact details.

Also, I'm sharing this http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/article.php?article=767 which mentions:

As I was once told by a very wise teacher, "If you find yourself on a plateau, sit back and enjoy the view." Plateaus in martial arts are often inevitable, so if you want to continue your training, you will have to manage it in some way. However, it is important for you to understand that being stuck is just another opportunity for you to rub against the tough spots. Because after enough rubbing and polishing those tough spots, you can be certain they will eventually become smooth enough for you to slide right off your plateau.

Best!

Hi All,

Some govt. economist told me that asian people work alot and so people here don't have time to pub club like the west. I asked him what about chinese and japanese pubbing clubbing on which he didn't say anything. I told him that different people can have different perspectives and that I'm not interested in judging (whats right and wrong). However, I think that particularly for single guys and women in general the reasons are different and not because they don't have time because asians work alot as he says. I told him that in my experience for single guys and women in general there's alot of difference between here and where I've stayed in the west.

Recently, I had shared "Amartya Sen: snakes and ladders" http://blogs.ft.com/beyond-brics/2011/12/24/amartya-sen-playing-snakes-and-ladders/ on the Chief Marketing Officer - India https://www.facebook.com/cmoindia Facebook page and on the Privacy and Security Community https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/110327950402925051569/110327950402925051569/posts Google+ page. The article mentions "The India-China comparisons tend to concentrate mostly on the horse race of relative rates of overall economic growth, rather than their comparative performance on the respective use of the fruits of economic growth."

Also, "To take a classic contrast – that between China and India – India may be now growing almost as fast as China does, but China seems to be making much greater use of this opportunity for development purposes. For example, government expenditure on health care in China is nearly five times that in India. China does, of course, have a larger population and a higher per-capita income than India, but even in relative terms, China spends a much higher proportion of its GDP in governmental expenditure on health care (more than 50 per cent higher than India as a percentage of GDP)."

Also, "Even though India is now growing nearly as rapidly as China in terms of GDP, the gap between the two countries is growing – rather than diminishing – in terms of values of most social indicators of living standards, such as life expectancy, infant mortality rate, mean years of schooling, the coverage of immunization."

Also, "However, it is not merely China, but even contrasted with our neighbours in South Asia, India’s relative position has persistently declined over the last two decades, compared with Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and even Bhutan. Bangladesh, which has overtaken India in nearly all the social indicator, may be blessed with an activist NGO movement that is a world beater, and also Bangladeshi women seemed to have been more mobilized for the cause of economic and social and political change in a way that India has not been able to match."

Over the years, I've heard from several people ranging from low to high class in India that they don't have time to exercise. I wish for them that they can make time for their health and fitness because I think that it's our health and fitness that critically makes our lives well. I also wish that people learn better on things and that for which I also share free online resources including from the best universities on http://www.slateandchalk.net/learnonline.aspx.

Also, I had recently posted on my page's wall a few things which I'm sharing here:

Strength & Conditioning for Kids: How and Why?

Someone in class tenth asked me today that whether doing push ups stunts height because that's what his school teacher who has a PH.D. told him.

I told him that I would search on this and then share the same with him.

From http://kidshealth.org/parent/nutrition_center/staying_fit/strength_training.html

Age Guidelines

Generally, if your child is ready to participate in organized sports or activities such as baseball, soccer, or gymnastics, it is usually safe to start strength training.

A child's strength-training program shouldn't just be a scaled-down version of an adult's weight training regimen. A trainer who has experience in working with kids should design a program for your child and show your child the proper techniques, safety precautions, and how to properly use the equipment.

Kids as young as 7 or 8 years old can usually do strength-training activities (such as pushups and sit-ups) as long as they show some interest, can perform the exercises safely, and follow instructions. These exercises can help kids build a sense of balance, control, and awareness of their bodies.

Specific exercises should be learned without resistance. When proper techinique is mastered, small amounts of resistance (body weight, band, or weight) can be added. In general as kids get older and stronger, they can gradually increase the amount of resistance they use. A trained professional can help your child determine what the appropriate weight may be.

About Strength Training

Strength training is the practice of using free weights, weight machines, and rubber resistance bands, or body weight to build muscles. With resistance the muscles have to work harder to move. When the muscles work harder, they grow stronger and more efficient.

Strength training can also help fortify the ligaments and tendons that support the muscles and bones and improve bone density, which is the amount of calcium and minerals in the bone. And the benefits may go beyond physical health. Young athletes may feel better about themselves as they get stronger.

The goal of strength training is not to bulk up. It should not be confused with weight lifting, bodybuilding, and powerlifting, which are not recommended for kids and teens. In these sports, people train with very heavy weights and participate in modeling and lifting competitions. Kids and teens who do those sports can risk injuring their growing bones, muscles, and joints.

From http://www.hss.edu/conditions_strength-conditioning-kids.asp

Excerpt:

In the right environment, and with proper supervision and technique, strength training for kids has been deemed safe and effective for kids and has been approved by the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Society of Sports Medicine, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

It is thought that strength increase in children who participate in strength training involves changes in the muscle that already exists. A muscle works by nerve firing, and strength training in children and adolescents changes the way the nerves fire, such that more muscle fibers are activated by each nerve. This increases muscle strength in children without changing the composition of the actual muscle.

Contrary to prior understanding, new studies have shown that growth plates (the areas of primary growth at the ends of longer bones) in prepubescent children are not at high risk of epiphyseal fractures when the training adheres to these guidelines. Strength and conditioning training can actually enhance bone growth; the greatest amount of bone formation occurs during childhood, and strength training can serve to create stronger bones if done correctly and in the proper setting.

Is Strength Training Effective for Kids?

We now have a better understanding of the neurology behind muscle hypertrophy, and strength training in general, than was common 25-30 years ago. Studies done in the 1970s and 1980s which debunked the validity of strength training were later denounced by the American Academy of Pediatrics for using inaccurate parameters and excluding important studies on natural strength gained by children. For example, in the 1970’s, researchers didn’t realize that it took six weeks for the motor units to change in number and size.

Contemporary studies have altered that approach and have determined that children as young as six years old “can improve strength when following age-specific resistance training guidelines.”

(Benjamin, Holly J. MD; Glow, Kimberly M. MD, MPH, Strength training for children and adolescents. The Physician and Sports Medicine. 2003, Sept; (31)9)

Two studies used the twitch interpolation technique to determine the effects of changes in motor unit activation on strength increases in preadolescent boys when in a proper training environment. This technique involves delivering single electrical pulses to a muscle when the subject is at rest and while the subject attempts to produce a maximum voluntary contraction. The training sessions lasted ten weeks; when it was over, they saw a gain of 9% in the boys’ elbow flexors and 12% in their knee extensors. Strength gains were due to increased neuronal activation, intrinsic muscular adaptations, and motor coordination (learning). While muscle strength increased, the size of the muscle did not.

(Ramsay JA, Blimkie CJ, Sale DF, et al.. Strength training effects in prepubescent boys. Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. 1990; 22(5):605-614)

Movement Intelligence

An instinctual factor in sports, called “movement intelligence”, has also been shown to increase after a course of strength and conditioning training. Movement intelligence is when all the parts of the body learn to coordinate movement together in the most effective way. With proper training, this state is achieved with no conscious thought, e.g., when a basketball player jumps up for a rebound or when a baseball player swings at a pitch. The muscles involved with these movements and responses become more inherently and instinctually conditioned to react quickly and properly, resulting in increased ability and a reduced risk of injury. Since movement intelligence is learned, and since children tend to learn quickly at an early age, it is best to teach it as early as possible.

(Ramsay JA, Blimkie CJ, Sale DF, et al.. Strength training effects in prepubescent boys. Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. 1990; 22(5):605-614)

Strength and conditioning training for children can be safe and effective when proper safety guidelines are met and each child’s program is designed appropriately and individually. A pre-training evaluation by a personal trainer is necessary, along with a post-training evaluation, and the child must be supervised throughout the course of the training by the trainer. Likewise, the child’s parents must take an active interest in the regimen without resorting to forceful excess. The quality of each training session should be stressed over the quantity of sessions, and when applicable, the training should be as sport-specific as possible. Most importantly, a child undergoing strength and conditioning training should never stop having fun doing it.

Hi All,

During mid October, I decided to leave my gym then which has nice facility, equipment, and trainers and that I recommend it to people and so my reason to leave wasn't because of gym itself. So I went to a gym nearby that is an international chain of high repute to learn about it. I was told by the salesperson there that he was giving me a great discount and that it was only valid until the end of October. However, I couldn't join it for November because my gym then told me that I've to give one month notice for cancellation based on my contract and so I had to pay for the month of November and hence I also used the gym for the month which was nice. After some days, I searched online and found that the international gym had a special discount during November which was even cheaper than what the salesperson was giving me for joining the gym before November. I told the salesperson the same on which he said that he wasn't aware of it and that then he told me that he would check this with his seniors and that then told me that he would give me a discount, however, it was only available for a day or two and so I would've to join the gym soon to get the discount. I told him that I would let him know and that then I wrote on the Facebook wall of this gym on which I was told that the discount was for several days during the month. Perhaps the salesperson wasn't aware of the exact details. I also asked the salesperson and on the Facebook wall of this gym whether I could access two of its outlets whenever I want for the price of one on which I was told that for which I would've to pay extra which was much more than a small fees for me and so I decided to not join this gym even though it's nice.

During the same period, I was thinking of starting our Health and Fitness India network www.healthfitnessindia.com. I had also heard of Fitness First in Connaught Place in Delhi and that I visited there thinking that it's in the middle of the two outlets of the other gym that I wanted to use and so this gym alone should be somewhat fine for me. Moreover, I was going to visit Delhi at least some days a week to visit health and fitness related businesses to share about our network and that since I would be using Metro, I thought that Fitness First in C.P. should work out well. Moreover, I thought that I would learn how a top gym in India is and that perhaps would also meet more nice people.

Yesterday, the salesperson from that gym called and said that I hadn't spoken with him in a while (which was about a month ago) on which I mentioned that I had joined Fitness First. When he started to compare his gym with Fitness First, I told him that I realize that his gym's chain is a top one too even if all the outlets might not be of the same level and that when I asked him whether he has visited Fitness First and that he said that he hasn't then I suggested him that he should visit Fitness First to put his outlet (which is also nice) in perspective and that since I don't own any of these gyms, if any of his gym's outlets are overall more suitable later then I might even join it and that since he also doesn't own any of these gyms, he might even be working for another gym later or might even own a business. I think that a platform that can bring together the many different entities in health and fitness in India to connect, share, and collaborate with each other as well as possible would benefit all. In this regard, our Health and Fitness India network aims to bring together business owners, professionals, and enthusiasts in health and fitness in India to connect, share, and collaborate! Also, kindly note that business owners, professionals, and enthusiasts from worldwide are welcome to our network. It would be great if you would share about our network www.healthfitnessindia.com with people to whom it would be of value.
