AYURVEDA AND FEMALE INFERTILITY

AROGYAM%20PURE%20HERBS%20VRAHKARNI%20TABLET.jpg

CAUSES OF FEMALE INFERTILITY

"The news of conception and feeling of becoming a mother gives an unexplained contentment to every woman’s heart. It is an innate desire of every woman to hold her baby in arms and bestow upon it, her affectionate love, generously."

Conception is a natural course in an individual, whereas in some cases the female may have to confront some hinderances. As explained previously, Infertility is inability to conceive after one year of unprotected sexual intercourse. Woman who conceive but are incapable to retain the foetus till the birth are also termed infertile.

Causes of Female Infertility :

According to Ayurveda Uterus comprises of three functional layers :

Prathamavarta or the first layer consists of Vulva. Dwitiyaavarta or Second layer comprises of Vagina, cervical canal, cervix. The ovaries, fallopian tubes and endometrium forms the innermost third layer or Tritiyaavarta, any  abnormality in  these functional layers results in gynaecological problems.

The root cause of Female Infertility can be either structural or functional anomaly or both.

1.    Vaginal infections.

2.    Uterine cavity – Growth, fibroid, malformation.

3.    Ovaries – PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease), Unovulation.

4.    Fallopian tubes – Tubal impatency.

5.    Structural defect.

6.    Pelvic causes – Endometriosis, Adhesions, Septum.

7.    Repeated abortions.

8.    Urinary tract infections.

9.    Generalised debility.

Na hi vatat rute yoni narinam sampradushyati

This explains that uterus and its tissues has the predominance of Apan vayu and its functions are also regulated by the same, hence any imbalance in Apan vayu results in uterine disorders and ultimately is the cause for infertility.

Vaginal infection– Vaginal infections if ignored can result in serious issues like eruptive ulcers or erosions in vaginal tract. Presence of leucocytes in mucous indicates infection of Gonnorhoea, Chalmydia trachomatis. Sometimes excessive Pitta and increased heat in body can cause burning sensation, swelling, ulcers, and pain in vagina. Excessive heat in vagina leads to necrospermia. Pain and excessive dryness in vagina, piles, fistula and fissures ultimately causes Dysparunia. The vaginal swelling may sometimes have an internal origin  high up in the uterus.

Cervix - Position and patency of cervix and the cervical canal plays an important role in conception. The narrow cervical opening causes hinderance in sexual intercourse and thus becomes a cause for infertility. Anteverted or retroverted uterus prevents sperms to reach the uterus. Outgrowths like Cyst, Chocolate cyst or Bartholin cyst, fibroid, etc.

Uterine causes - Irregularity, inflammation, adhesions swelling in the endometrial cavity inhibits the implantation of the embryo. Previous D&C, endometrial infections, tumor, fibroid, polyps in the uterus. Malformed, septate uterus, Underdeveloped reproductive organs, smaller uterine cavity are some of the causes.

Tubal and Ovarian factors– Salphingitis, adhesions, tubal blocks, unovulation due to hormonal imbalance, irregular menses, PCOD.

Generalised cause - Generalised debility, history of trauma to reproductive organs, anaemia, tuberculosis, hypothyroidism, physical or mental stress, etc.

History of repeated abortions weakens the uterine tissues, thus preventing the uterus to retain the fertilized ovum for longer span. It may also lead to long term infections. Past history of diseases like measles, rubella, etc. and frequent urinary tract infections serves an efficient cause for infertility.

Fear or unawareness about sexual intercourse, or conception requires effectual counselling which can solve the problem for sure.

Unhealthy food habits, changing lifestyle, untimely meals, lack of nutrition, lack of exercise, over exertion, self medication, or excessive use of hormonal pills to regulate menses according to our convenince plays against natural course resulting in infertility. Smoking impairs ovarian function and prevents embryo implantation into the endometrium. There can still be a long list to add but these are the few which should be taken care of.

Ayurvedic approach towards treatment pertaining to infertility is bringing various solutions. Reproductive tissue, also known as shukra dhatu is responsible for good or bad metabolic process. Good and effective ayurvedic medicines are introduced, which supply nutrients to the bone, muscle, food and shukra dhatu.

AYURVEDA AND INFERTILITY

" Getting pregnant is a natures course, instead of any compulsive or manipulative efforts let nature play its role"

GOD is a magnificient creator, He created universe, five elemental forces of Nature which governs the entire universe and many more things beyond our imagination. Admist these various innovations, is the prodigy of Procreation. Procreation in another words, is the desire to reproduce own species through sexual act.

The fundamentals in nature, namely Prakriti and Purush acts as driving force, which replicates the Female and Male gender respectively in all Living creatures. This is the cause why sexual act and desire for sex is given so much importance since ages, it is nothing but a sincere Nature’s call.

Inability of a woman to concieve or a man to induce conception after one year of regular sexual intercourse without any contraceptive measures or retaining the foetus till the birth is termed as Infertility. The problem may be with the male or female partner, or both. Although many a times only female is held responsible, it is important to know that both man and woman are equally responsible for conception, as conception occurs only after the union of a healthy male sperm and equally efficient female ovum.

Essential Factors for conception :

For conception of a healthy foetus, Ayurveda explains four necessary elements :

Ritu (Appropriate period for conception) –  Here period indicates two things a) Age of both male and female partners,  b) Days eligible for conception depending upon ovulation.

Kshetra (Seat for conception) – The word Kshetra refers to the Uterus, Uterus should be in healthy state so that it can hold the foetus  for upcoming 9 months and provide nourishment and safety.

Ambu (Nourishment for concieved foetus) – Ambu means water, here it specifies nourishment to the foetus growing in the womb, this depends upon the generalised nutrition of the mother.

Beej  - Beej explains the need of competent male sperm and equally healthy female ovum. Both the sperm and ovum is termed as Shukra Dhatu in Ayurveda, meaning the reproductive tissue.
Ayurveda explains body is composed of seven Dhatus, of which Shukra dhatu or reproductive tissue is the seventh or last dhatu, hence it has the presence of fractions of  all the previous dhatus, and so it has the capability of generating a new tissue (foetus). Healthy Shukra dhatu shows presence of beauty, bravery and valor in an individual. Conception of healthy child depends completely on the health of parental Shukra dhatu, so it must be taken care of.

Causes of Infertility :

  • Generalised weakness, lack of nutrition.
  • Improper eating habits, eating excessive spicy, oily, salty or unhealthy foods.
  • Sleeping at very late hours, working in extreme hot or cold conditions.
  • Handling too much of stress.
  • Alcohol intake and smoking affects to a great extent.
  • Debility of Shukra dhatu – Reproductive health of an individual depends solely upon the health of Shukra dhatu i.e reproductive tissue, Seminal fluid in males and ovum (Artav dhatu) in females. Also Shukra sthana (site) and its functioning share an equal importance. Shukra sthana in women explains anatomical structure and physiology of the uterus and associated organs, and in males it denotes the male reproductive system.
  • Structural defect in uterus can be one of the reasons  of infertility; of which some can  be cured.
  • Defect in sperm and semen.
  • An obstruction in anatomical structure, like tubal blockage, or obstructive pathologies like  ovarian or uterine tumors, fibroids.
  • Suppressing natural urges like that of urine, stools or sexual urge (Shukra Vega dharan) for long durations.
  • Over indulgence in sex can lead to shukra kshaya i.e Qualitative and Quantitative degradation in sperm count.
  • Decreased or Loss of libidio.
  • Sometimes impotency or infertility prevails by birth.
  • Abnormality in artav dhatu (female shukra dhatu ) Irregular menses, PCOD, unovulation, etc..
  • Infective pathology.
  • Trauma to the vital organs.
  • Repeated miscarriages.

Generalised treatment of infertility :

  • Counselling is an essential part.
  • Nourishment of general health.
  • Regulating diet and behavourial habits.
  • Treat defects and infective pathologies if any.
  • Relieving stress factor concerned with work or related to conception.
  • Ensure digestive fire (agni) is strong enough.
  • Clear  any obstructions, blockages or outgrowths.
  • Medicines for regulation of normal physiology of reproductive system.
  • Sharir shodhan (purification) i.e. removal of body toxins and developing healthy body tissues by means of Panchakarma is very effective.
  • Vajikaran chikitsa – Treatment to build healthy reproductive tissues, it acts as a tonic and increases strength, vigour,  and developes healthy sperm essential for conceiving a healthy baby.
  • Following rules of sexual intercourse.
  • Last but not the least Love and affection between the couple  and pleasant state of mind plays an important role !
  • Ayurvedic approach towards treatment pertaining to infertility is bringing various solutions. Reproductive tissue, also known as shukra dhatu is responsible for good or bad metabolic process. Good and effective ayurvedic medicines are introduced, which supply nutrients to the bone, muscle, food and shukra dhatu.

AYURVEDA TO TREAT COLON CANCER

295664_508048462581108_397476581_n.jpg

Colon Cancer

Classical Ayurvedic texts have several references to cancer. Some terms used to describe the condition are general while others are much more specific.

Charaka and Sushruta Samhita (700 BC) both described the equivalent of cancer as granthi (benign or minor neoplasm) and arbuda (malignant or major neoplasm). Both can be inflammatory or non-inflammatory, based on the doshas  (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) involved. The term dosha describes the three principles that govern the psychophysiological response and pathological changes in the body. Ayurveda described health as the balanced coordination of these three systems in body, mind and consciousness. The fundamental theory of Ayurvedic treatment is based on restoration of the balance between these three major bodily systems.

Herbs :

1. Green tea is rich in catechin polyphenols and this is a powerful anti-oxidant. This compound found in large quantities in green tea also helps individuals in inhibiting the formation of cancer cells. Green tea has also found to be very effective in the killing of cancer cells without harming the tissues. The processing involved for making green tea helps in retaining the good elements in it and makes it more beneficial for cancer than the black or the oolong teas. The green tea leaves are fermented and this helps in the retaining of the catechin polyphenols which are the cancer destroying compounds. Recent research conducted by clinical researchers has proved that drinking green tea helps in the killing of the colon tumors in the initial stage. About fifty seven percent of the people who consumed green tea have been found to have been cured from colon cancers, which have been detected in the initial stages. A glass of green tea every day can be consumed by an individual for preventing the spreading of colon cancer.

2. Greater celandine is a Chinese traditional herb which can be used by individuals to prevent as well as to cure colon cancer. This herb not only helps in fighting cancer, but also boosts the immune system of an individual. It is also helpful in the treatment of diseases like asthma and atherosclerosis. Scientists have brought forth facts which clearly show that the herb greater celandine helps in starting the process of apoptosis. This is a kind of programmed death of the cells and this process helps in the stopping of the cancer cells from further spreading to other parts of the body of a person. Greater celandine are available as supplements for the consumption of individual.

3.This is herb commonly used by the ayurveda practitioners. Ashwagandha is a kind of adaptogen, which increases the resistance to stress and also increases the energy levels of the person. This herb also has been found to boost the immune system of an individual. According to research conducted on the herb, ashwagandha helps in the slowing down of the growth of the cancer cells and also inhibits the growth of tumor cells without harming the good cells. This herb is available in capsules and powdered forms. Before taking the herb, one should consult his doctor as large doses of the herb can lead to feelings of depression in individuals.

# For fighting against the problems caused by the colon cancer, an individual must increase his intake of raw vegetables which is also rich in fiber. This will help in eliminating the disease from the colon and restoring the health of the individual. Carrots, potatoes, yams, beans, avocados, guava, kiwi, are useful fruits and vegetables in the flushing out of the cancer causing element in the colon. These fruits and vegetables should be most preferably consumed in their raw form to derive the maximum benefits from them. This step will help in the prevention of the formation of colon polyps which later lead to the formation of colon cancer in individuals.

Colon cleansing after every six months using the three day liquid fast method is also effective in the treatment of colon cancer. Fresh juices must be regularly consumed to start the process of decaying the injured tissues and deposits in the colon area. This also helps in the removal of undigested materials from the colon. Aloe vera juice fasts and apple cider fasts are some other techniques of colon cleansing. Kidney cleansing has also been found in preventing colon cancer in individuals. Using different herbs, the kidney can be cleansed as this will prevent the breakout of a colon cancer.

# Ginger or ginger roots can be consumed by individuals to prevent as well as to cure colon cancer. Inflammation is reduced greatly by the intake of ginger in individuals. This inflammation has been found to have led to colon cancer in individuals. The inflammation markers which have been earlier proved in clinical researches as precursors to colon cancer can also be reduced significantly by the consumption of ginger or ginger roots. Research conducted on individuals who have been given two grams of ginger root supplements daily for one month have shown lessened amount of colon inflammation. Ginger soothes and heals the digestive tract and hence has been suggested as one of the best home remedies for the treatment of colon cancer. Ginger root supplements are available for the consumption of individuals. Even consuming raw ginger twice daily has beneficial effects on the health of the individual.

# Garlic has been used extensively in different cultures of the world mainly for the medicinal properties that it possesses. It is used not only as a spice but also for the treatment of various diseases. Recent researches have proved that garlic can also be used for the treatment of colon cancer in many individuals. It is in recent years that the popularity of this herb has increased as a colon cancer treating element. Garlic is a rich storehouse of organo-sulphur compounds. These compounds are the reason behind the pungent odor of garlic. Research has proved that these organo-sulphur compounds in garlic help in the prevention of the formation of colon polyps in the large intestine. These polyps actually are the precursors of the colon cancer. Consumption of raw garlic is therefore very helpful in the treatment of colon cancer in individuals. A few strands of garlic can be made into a paste and can be consumed daily for the colon cancer treatment. The juice of the garlic is the most essential element as it contains the organo-sulphur compounds and helps in restoring the health of the colon.

# Flax seed is the yellow or brown colored seed derived from the flax plant. Flax seed is a very important source of oil. The oil from the flax seed is rich in proteins and often consumed by individuals for the treatment of various diseases. The seeds of the plant are grounded so as to derive the main nutrients from the plant. Flax seed is rich in fibers, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients lignan, omega 3 fatty acids, alpha-linolenic acid. These elements help in maintain the good health of the colon and helps in cleaning the colon from the undigested wastes that remains in the colon and also helps in preventing colon polyps’ formation. These minerals can be effectively utilized by the digestive tract and this is the result why flax seed consumption helps individuals suffering from colon cancer. The high amount of lignan present in flax seed is also helpful in the prevention and in the treatment of colon cancer.

# Turmeric can not only be used for spicing up the dishes that an individual cooks but also is helpful for the treatment of various diseases including colon cancer. Turmeric is a relative of the ginger plant. The bulbs, roots and the rhizome of the plant are used for medicinal purposes. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory qualities and is also helpful in improving the kidney and liver functions of an individual. Curcumin is the active ingredient found in turmeric and is responsible for the treatment of the various diseases. Curcumin is an anti-oxidant and helps the human body to clean itself from unwanted elements known as free radicals. These free radicals can alter the DNA build up in the body of an individual and also damage or destroy the healthy cells in the human body. The anti-oxidant quality of curcumin makes it effective in treating these damaging particles. Curcumin helps in the cleaning of the digestive tract from the unwanted food elements and prevents the formation of colon polyps there.

Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables provide rich amounts of antioxidants -- nutrients that help your body protect itself from toxins associated with cancer and other illnesses, including infections that may interfere with cancer treatment and recovery. Since having cancer increases your risk for secondary cancers, the American Cancer Society recommends that all cancer patients consume a variety of foods rich in antioxidants daily. Fruits and vegetables particularly rich in protective nutrients include berries, cherries, citrus fruits, tomatoes, kiwi, red grapes, mango, leafy greens, bell peppers, broccoli, Brussels sprouts and winter squash. If your appetite is reduced, you may find fruit and vegetable juices and smoothies more palatable.

Grains

Grains provide glucose -- your body's main dietary source of energy. If your doctor has suggested a low-fiber or low-residue diet to temporarily reduce the amounts of undigested food and stool in your digestive tract, the American Cancer Society recommends white bread, plain pasta, pretzels and low-fiber cereals as valuable options. Otherwise, 100 percent whole-grain breads, cold cereals and pasta, brown and wild rice, quinoa, oatmeal, pearled barley and air-popped popcorn are valuable sources of fiber and antioxidants.

Fluids

Dehydration can cause tiredness, confusion, fatigue and low moods -- symptoms you may already be faced with during colon cancer treatment. Cancer treatment side effects, such as vomiting and diarrhea, increase your risk for dehydration. For this reason, the American Cancer Society recommends that cancer patients aim for sufficient fluid intake. Valuable sources include water, pure fruit and vegetable juices, herbal tea, kefir and low-fat milk. In addition to promoting hydration, milk and kefir supply valuable amounts of protein and nutrients, such as calcium and vitamin D. Healthy bacteria in kefir known as probiotics promote digestive health.

anti-oxidant.jpg

Anti-Oxidant Diet

Antioxidant is the much talked about topic nowadays. They are much in demand today all over the world. People are using them to regain mental as well as physical well-being.

Despite their popularity, there is a great lack of information on the topic of antioxidants. This article tries to deal with that issue. Firstly, we should know that what an antioxidant means. Antioxidants are molecules that are useful in preventing the early oxidation of our bodily cells. Oxidation of the body cells can lead to the generation of free radicals that are solely responsible for the aging as well as degenerative processes happening in the body. These antioxidants are involved in inhibiting the production of these free radicals thereby making you feel younger and healthier both mentally and physically.

In our body, there are continuous constructive (anabolism) and destructive (catabolism) processes going on. These are collectively known as metabolism. During such metabolic changes, ions or ionic groups are produced, called as free radicals. These free radicals are produced help the body to carry out the normal functions. Though these free radicals are produced by the normal bodily activity, they are indeed harmful for our body especially when considered in the long term. In simple words, these are responsible for making us old and initiate the process of aging. Growing old can be defined as the process in which there is decline in the physical and mental functioning of the body. In simple words decreased memory skills, lower immunity and reduced physical stamina is the sign of aging.

In general, it means people consume these antioxidants to avoid aging, impaired metabolism and general debility of the body. People conceptualize antioxidants as per their convenience. According to some people, antioxidants are substances that are consumed to strengthen the immune system, for some it is being consumed to avoid aging processes of the body and for some it is the method by which they can be healthy and attain longevity.

Ayurveda, being an age-old science, also laid stress on consuming the antioxidants. These are mentioned in the very first chapter of the Ayurvedic book of medicine, Charaka Samhita. According to the text, rasayana the synonym of antioxidant are consumed to attain longevity and maintain the healthy life.

           # Below are some powerful Anti-oxidants that are the contributions of Ayurveda :

Amalaki : is an herb famous for its rich Vitamin C content has also attained its popularity due to its bulk presence in chyawanprash. Amalaki possesses certain chemicals like gallic acid, ellagic acid, chebulinic acid, quercetin, chebulagic acid and corilagin that provide it with the power to act as an antioxidant. According to the Ayurvedic point of view, due to its cold potency and presence of five tastes, it is very helpful in avoiding oxidation of the cells.

Haritaki : has a hot potency and has five tastes. Botanically Haritaki is known as Terminalia chebula. The herb is famous for its astonishing healing power and its wonderful results in treating many diseases.

Asparagus : A rich source of vitamins and minerals, asparagus contains glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that is very helpful in reducing free radical production. Glutathione has been involved curing the thirty types of cancers. It is also a powerful agent, which is helpful in treating diseases of cardiovascular system and respiratory system.

Triphala : This is not a single herb but a uniqueness of ayurveda and its power of treatment. Triphala is a miraculous herb combination that has gained its popularity as the most successful antioxidant. Triphala contains a mixture of three prestigious herbs Amalaki, Haritaki and Bhibitaki. Triphala is considered as the a divine medicine that has gained a respect as the drug of choice for treating almost every disease that exist on the face of the earth

To conclude this article I will always prefer all the reader of this article to definitely try the herbal antioxidant so as to achieve the maximum benefit without facing any harmful side effects of the chemically prepared antioxidants. Feel the power of ayurveda in your life !

·          Sperm count – oligospermia, azoospermia, necrospermia.

·         Motility of sperm.

·         Structural defects of sperms – Due to vitiated vata dosha.

·         Any obstruction in genital tract.

 Causes of Male Infertility :

Ayurveda explains following causes for male infertility :

·         Ativyavayat– Over indulgence in sexual activity.

·         Vyayamat– Over exertion, it may include any kind of physical exertion or strenuous mental efforts.

·         Avyayamat– Over relaxation, laziness or spending very leisure life.

·         Asatmyanam cha sevanat– Eating over spicy, salted, sour, frozen foods, foods with low nutrition and lack of hygiene; also behavioural habits like sleeping very late at night, hectic lifestyle leads to disparity of Rakta and Pitta Dosha, ultimately causing Shukra kshaya i.e. deficit in Shukra Dhatu qualitatively and quantitatively.

·         Akale– It means at inappropriate time; i.e. before desirable age specifically before age of 16 in females and 18 in that of males, or beyond the age of 65-70 where the body faces generalised debility. Another aspect explains having intercourse very frequently and many times (5-6 times) in a day also leads to debility of Shukra dhatu.

The other essential causes are fear, stress, sorrow, tight clothing, working in hot environment for long duration. Smoking and alcohol consumption significantly affect virility in males.

Trauma to the genital organs, generalised debility, muscle weakness and stress can result in erectile dysfunction.

Suppression of sexual urge, infection in reproductive tract, or any kind of stricture can cause an obstructive pathology.

Treating Male Infertility :

Overcoming male infertility requires some basic modulation in lifestyle and food habits.

The treatment includes Shodhan chikitsai.e. cleansing therapy depending upon dominancy of derranged doshas. Vaman in Kapha dushti, Virechan in Pitta dushti and Basti in case of Vata dushti.

Natural Ways To Increase Sperm Count

Low sperm count, medically termed as oligospermia is a health disorder characterized by less number of sperms than normal count in semen volume. Problems causing this particular health disorder can be either of psychological or physical origin. Common causes reported for the formation of this health disorder include hormonal imbalance, malnutrition and testicular injury.

Regular doing of relaxation exercise is one among the best recommended natural remedial measures to increase sperm count. It is found to be very helpful for treating oligospermia due to high stress condition. It calms down nerve cells and improves blood circulation throughout the body. In order to prevent the risk of stress condition, patients are recommended to set aside at least ten to twenty minutes per day for practicing relaxation exercises. Deep breathing exercise of yoga is one among the common relaxation exercises recommended by health practitioners. Apart from improving sperm count, regular doing of relaxation exercises also helps in improving concentration power, slowing down breathing rate and lowering blood pressure level.

liver_detox_pathways.jpg

detoxification pathways in the liver

KEEP LIVER HEALTHY( The Main Vital Organ Of The Body ) - HERBAL / NATURAL DETOXIFICATION It is important that you do a liver detox at least once a year as the liver is one of the most vital organs of our body. A liver detox helps to ensure that it functions properly in producing over 13,000 different chemicals and 2,000 various enzymes used by the body.

It is only the liver that can purify the bloodstream and we only have one liver. With in the human body is an organ that is incredible in the amount of work it does daily. The liver is one of the largest organs in the body, and the heaviest weighing in at over 3 lbs. It is a smooth, cone shaped organ that is protected by the rib cage on the upper right of the abdomen. It carries out over five hundred different processes every day involved with filtering and regulating the various chemicals in the body.

# Some of it's many duties are:

Aids in digestion
distributes nutrients in the food you eat
removes toxins from the blood
stores glucose
filters chemicals
helps to get rid of old blood cells
maintains the blood sugar level
and many more things

* Most amazing of all is that it regenerates itself! Your liver can continue to keep functioning even after losing up to ninety percent (90%) of it's cells.

Because it does so much when it is not functioning properly the whole body can run amok. With as many environmental pollutants as humans are exposed to in modern society the liver is often worked beyond it's ability to cope and over time it ceases to do it's job effectively. As the liver functions less effectively the body begins to have illnesses and begins to break down. Some of the health problems associated with a toxic liver are:

constipation
bloat
headaches
acid reflux
high cholesterol
overweight/obesity
underweight
PMSAsthma
Fibromyalgia
Diabetes
Skin disorders
Depression
Fatigue
Dark circles under the eyes

* Luckily the liver is resilient and these illnesses and trends toward illnesses can be reversed.

# Natural Cleanses :

A liver cleanse is not something to take on lightly or without research. It should be done in stages. Most naturopaths recommend that before the liver is cleansed a person should do a colon cleanse first and then a kidney cleanse. Why is this?
When you go through a liver cleanse the various toxins that have been stored in the liver are dumped in to the body. The colon and the kidneys must then eliminate these toxins rapidly, or as rapidly as possible. If these organs are not at peak function they will not be able to rid the body of toxins quickly and effectively and that could lead to more problems.

Once you have done that then it is time to go on to the liver cleanse.

# Herbs For Liver Detox :
There are many herbs that are recommended for detoxifying the liver.
-Turmeric- increases bile production and helps with the treatment of gall stones ,Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant.
- Milk Thistle- is a strong anti-toxin
- Yellow Dock-helps to dissolve fat in the liver and is an excellent anti-toxin
- Dandelion- immune system booster and anti-toxin
- Licorice Root- Helps neutralize the effects of powerful chemical toxins
*These herbs can be used in various combinations to help detoxify the liver and keep it functioning properly.

# When Should You Not Detox?

Some of the reasons that detoxing can be dangerous are:

Pregnancy
Breast feeding
Children or Teens should not detox because they are growing
Elderly
Underweight
Getting over an illness
Anemia
Heart Disease
Kidney Problems
Diabetes
Chronic illness
Supplements

You can also use prepared supplements to help with detoxing the liver. Several companies make herbal combinations that work to detoxify and subsequently strengthen the liver and surrounding organs. Usually it is best to take these supplements in conjunction with a dietary change, or after a more in depth liver cleanse, but read instructions carefully and always check with your health care provider.

Digestion%20And%20Metabolism.jpg

IMPORTANCE OF GOOD DIGESTION & METABOILSM TO STAY HEALTHY

There are lots of books, Magazines, Articles etc. are being published on regular basis regarding the Nutritious, healthy and organic food and being read and practiced by Millions of people all around the world on daily basis but still the chart is rising only in terms of various diseases . Why is this so?

The whole world is Obsessed by Healthy, Macrobiotic food and Nutritious food but still making a habit of implementing Multi vitamin pills, Pills for calcium, pills for iron , vitamin C etc. in their daily routine . Why?

If one is eating healthy Nutritious food then why they need additional chemical supplements?

People all around the globe are now a days more concerned about their physical condition and thus they are opting for more Nutritional, Healthy and Organic food, but the irony is that even after doing so many things and taking so many precautions the diseases are not controlling ,rather the problems like Gastritis , Liver diseases , GERD ,Peptic and Duodenal Ulcers , Improper metabolism etc are on the augment.
Many will say that this is all because of Stress, Adulteration of food, Pollutions and other such things which I do completely agree with but the genuine Underlining cause is still missing !
The statement that Eat Healthy ,organic and Nutritious food to remain Healthy but alone doing so will not solve the problem or make you healthy.

The Main Things which nobody teaches or speaks about is -
1. How to Eat?
2.When to Eat?
3.What all the things to follow to have proper Metabolism?

Yes, these are the most important things which we all must and should know otherwise even though you eat the nourishing food that is also not at all going to help you .
These things might seem to be very simple but these are very Important part for the process of Digestion and metabolism.
Unless and until one not have good and proper Metabolism nothing is going to help. If a person have proper metabolism then the Proper Digestion and assimilation from the gut will be there and then only he or she will not be deprived of Iron, Calcium or essential Minerals and Vitamins.
# Aahar Pachan in Ayurveda
The process of digestion is known as Aahar Pachan in Ayurveda. In Ayurveda, any food (ahar) passes through the following:
Taste (Rasa)
Uses (Guna)
Potency (Veerya)
Metabolism resultant (vipak), and
Impact (prabhav)

It is said that rasas undertake gunas and is undertaken by veerya. This is suppressed by vipak and finally prabhav makes all of them resultant. Therefore, when we consume food, we must take into consideration the fact that our food should have calories needed as per age. Similarly calorie intake during pregnancy and lactation and disease or recuperation should also be considered. Calories must come in balanced form in terms of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Food is consumed as solids or semi-solids and liquids. Salads must be an important segment of food. Water other than juices and milk is needed and must be pure and adequate.

# Signs of improper metabolism :
# Primary Signs :Constipation,Mental dullness,Unexplained fatigue,Bad breath
# Secondary Signs :Gas,Bloating,Coated tongue,Body odor,Dull skin,High cholesterol , Degenerative diseases
The main aim of Ayurvedic Aahar Pachan or the digestion process should be such that human beings can achieve the ultimate goal of the science. i.e., maintaining health and treating disease.
# We observing the inhabitants all around the world in their regular routine. They dont even have time to eat properly.Mostly they are trying to finish the job of eating while on their way to the office.Today's fast lifestyle habits are :
1.Just grabbing a piece of Sandwich or burger, pizza or anything and eating while walking to their work or running while eating etc.
2.Watching television or reading newspapers and eating .
3.Not chewing the food properly.
4.Eating either too fast or too slow.
5.Mostly drinking plenty of water just before the food or immediately after the food .
6.Going to sleep immediately after the dinner. And so many other such things.

# Do you know how these habits are damaging your health?

~ If you do not chew your food properly, then the proper mixing of saliva with the food will not be there. The Saliva contains an Amylase called Ptyalin which does the partial digestion of carbohydrates in the mouth itself. So if you are not chewing the food properly then automatically the first stage of digestion is incomplete.

~ If you are more focused on reading or watching the television during your meal or not sitting properly and peacefully at one place then automatically the proper secretion of the gastric juices will not be there and again will hamper the process of digestion.

~ Drinking water just before the food will kill the appetite and also immediately after the food will hamper the process of digestion because as per Ayurveda water is Guru guna i.e. Heavy and thus should not be consumed immediately after the food .

~ Going to sleep immediately after the food will cause indigestion and can cause so many problems too.

Thus, rather than focusing more on Organic and Nutritional stuff , first try to learn the proper process of eating .Whatever you eat either nutritious or not , food or medicines everything has to be metabolize first and then only it will yield proper effect.

# What Ayurveda Says :

Each person has a certain combination of tridoshas, known as his or her prakruti, and this uniqueness of each individual is a concept which is fundamental in ayurveda. If you went to see an ayurvedic healer, they would probably draw up a specialised eating plan based on the various factors such as age and gender, the doshic tendencies that need to be balanced at a given time, the strength of the body tissues and the digestive fibres, and the level of ama (toxins) in the body. The place where a person lives and the season are also factors that affect dietary dos and don'ts. However, there are some universally applicable principles that are important to follow:
1. Include the six tastes at every main meal
2. Choose foods by balancing physical attributes
3. Choose foods that are sattvic
4. Opt for whole, fresh, in-season, local foods
5. Rotate menus and experiment with a variety of foods
6. Include spices and herbs in your daily diet

# Follow the rules and good health will surely come your waynot quite. In ayurveda, the way in which you eat is just as important as what. The theories are complex, but here are five introductory guidelines to aid good digestion:

1. Eat sitting down in a settled environment, and maintain a good posture.
2. Stimulate digestion before the meal :Weak digestive fire (agni) may lead to fatigue after eating, so before a full meal try eating a one-inch piece of fresh ginger with a few drops of lemon juice and a pinch of salt. This stimulates the saliva and the digestive enzymes, helping efficient digestion.
3. Avoid cold drinks at meals.
4.Do not skip breakfast and avoid heavy food at night.
5.As far as possible eat fresh food.
6. Make lunch the largest meal of the day.
7. Do not eat after 10p.m.

So Simply eating healthy food will not gives proper results. The way of eating the food is also very important.

* Eat Properly Be Healthy ! This is what we want to say !

You Can Heal Yourself of ANYTHING and ANY DISEASE.
Just STOP doing what makes you sick,START doing what Creates Powerful Health!

The Ayurveda diet is a very simple . A diabetic should follow a low carbohydrates, low fat & moderate protein diet. The diet should be high in complex carbohydrates ie. High fibre diet like vegetables, whole legumes, whole wheat products, oats etc. Products made from refined wheat flours should be restricted. Salads can be consumed in a any quantities but high fat salad dressings should be avoided. Fruits can be taken as per recommended by your dietician, fruit juices should be avoided and whenever possible fruit should be taken with the skin eg. Apple, Pear etc. Preferably avoid fruits along with your meals and you can take it 2 hours after or before a meal.

Each meal should contain some source of protein as it doesn’t increase the blood sugar immediately For eg. In breakfast you can consume oats porridge, which contains oats as well as milk. Proteins should not be taken too much in excess as it may lead to renal problems.

A diabetic patient should worry about the fat content of his diet. Many foods have some amount of invisible fats such as whole milk, egg yolk, and red meats.

Choose skimmed milk, egg whites, de-skinned chicken and use very little quantity of visible fats like oil, Clarified butter, butter in your daily diet.

# Guidelines for Diabetics :

-Exercise regularly, it keeps you fit and helps in controlling diabetes. Light exercise such as jogging, swimming or brisk walking are good.
-Do not walk bare feet. Decreased sensations can result in injury.
-Do not miss a meal after insulin or oral anti diabetic drugs.
-Do not change the dose of the anti-diabetic drugs, except under medical advice.
-Test urine regularly.

The main goal of nutrition for diabetics is to avoid highs & lows of blood sugar so you can feel well today and in the future. So it is important to remember these 3 points.

1) The timing of your meals & snacks is very important. Eat meals & snacks at the same time every day or as close to the same time as possible. Include a snack if you are exercising or if your blood sugar gets low. If these are happening regularly then consult your physician.

2) If you are taking insulin or a diabetic pill, always eat bed time snack. Stick to your serving size. If you eat more then what you are required to may raise your blood sugar.

HERBS FOR DIABETES : Some of the herbs that are recommended are gudmur, musta, gokshura, fenugreek, coriander, gokshura, triphala and cardamom mixed with honey. Triphala can be used in the healing process of prameha, which is also called diabetes. Barley for curing urinary diseases and some of the other healing procedures for treating diabetes are oil massage, sitz or waist bath or sprinkling water.

# HERBAL REMEDIES FOR DIABETES :

Some of the other methods to reduce diabetes are:
•Use dry ginger with cardamom while bath.
•Take an oil massage.
•Do exercise regularly.
•Drink water that is kept in a copper vessel for a night during the early hours.
•Follow some of the non-dietary regiments like asanas, exercise like deep breathing and yoga.
•You should keep specific time between your lunch and dinner.
•Eat herbal preparations to prevent problems related to digestion.
•You can always use oils and spices.
•You should eat a balanced diet.

Sandalwood, cardamom, and dry ginger can be used for taking bath or can be taken orally also.

If you are suffering seriously with Diabetes Consult a herbal or ayurvedic practitioner before taking any of the herbal supplements to avoid complications or further worsening of the condition.

Gouty Arthritis Symptoms

What is Uric Acid?

Before showing you how to lower uric acid levels naturally, it’s important to understand what uric acid is, where it comes from, and why high levels can lead to gout…

Uric acid is a byproduct of the chemical breakdown of compounds called ‘purines’ that exist in our body’s cells and in our food. Purines are very important to us because they provide things like our energy and our protein that we all need. During this process, uric acid is produced in the bloodstream. Uric acid is good for us because it acts as an antioxidant and helps look after the internal linings of our blood vessels. It’s our kidneys’ job to process the uric acid produced and excrete waste out of our bodies via our urine, with a little amount via our stools.

What Causes High Uric Acid in Blood?

Although the kidneys usually maintain uric acid at healthy levels, there are times when they are unable to do this, resulting to excessive uric acid circulating in the blood.

Two of the main causes for high uric acid levels in bloodare:

(1) The kidneys aren’t working to their full potential so that they are unable to process and expel sufficient uric acid quickly enough, or…

(2) There is too much uric acid being produced by the metabolizing purines for healthy kidneys to process. Whatever is the case, the result is high uric acid in the blood.

What is the Result of High Uric Acid Levels in the Human Body?

High uric acid levels in the bloodstream is a condition known as ‘hyperuricemia.’ Over time this can lead to the production of uric acid crystals which can settle in the joints, tendons and surrounding tissue. Now, these crystals are needle-like in shape and are looked upon as foreign objects by the body’s defenses. The body’s natural anti-inflammatory processes against these crystals cause symptoms such as redness, swelling, heat, inflammation, stiffness and very great painThese are the symptoms of a gout attack. In other words, high uric acid levels in the human body can lead to gout.

How to Lower Uric Acid Levels Naturally?

More and more gout sufferers are moving away from costly drug-based remedies with their nasty side effects, to more natural remedies. Here are 3 simple tips on how to lower uric acid levels in the blood naturally:

(1) Drink between 2 and 3 liters of water everyday. Drink small amounts regularly throughout the day. Water helps the kidneys to process and flush uric acid out of the body.

(2) Consume a baking soda solution to help dissolve uric acid crystals, and, increase uric acid solubility. Add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to 8 oz of water. Mix thoroughly, and drink maximum 8 glasses daily. One before bedtime, one when you get up in the morning, and one every 2 to 4 hours between meals. Repeat until the symptoms have gone.

Note: Since baking soda is high in sodium, change to a salt-free diet whilst taking this remedy. And, if you suffer from high blood pressure, although you can take it as long as you monitor your blood pressure closely, it’s better not to use this remedy at all.

(3) Change to a low purine diet. Since uric acid comes from the breakdown of purines, and, purines also exist in our foods, a gout sufferer needs to go onto a diet that is relatively low in purines. This also means avoiding high purine foods completely. The general types of food to avoid arefatty red meats, poultry and some seafood. And, it’s important to avoid alcohol. Beer, in particular, is a trigger for gout. The types of foods that make up a low purine diet are things like; essential fatty acids(e.g. tuna, salmon, etc.), low fat dairy products, complex carbohydrates (e.g. bread, cereal, pasta, rice, vegetables, fruit, etc.), fruits such as cherries, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, etc.

Dangers of Recurring Gout

Many folks are unaware that not dealing with their gout in a proper manner can be very damaging. By ‘dealing in a proper manner,’ I mean doing all they can to prevent their gout from coming back. You see, frequently recurring gout can lead to many health issues, such as permanent / serious joint damage and kidney problems like painful kidney stones. And, making matters worse is that, a person who experiences just one gout attack, now has a much higher chance of further attacks. In fact, it’s almost certain unless they take proper measures to prevent recurring gout.

So, as a gout sufferer, you need to, not only eliminate gout symptoms during an attack, but start on a regimen to prevent gout recurrence.

Why Panchkarma

Book%20Your%20Panchakarma%20Dates.jpg

BEST  TIME  FOR  PANCHKARMA

Are you feeling stressed out and anxious? Do you have trouble getting a good night's sleep? Are you struggling with pain, a chronic condition, or a difficult diagnosis?

If physical and emotional roadblocks are preventing you from fully enjoying your life, it's time to experience Perfect Health.

People come to Panchakarma for a variety of reasons, but with a shared desire to increase health, vitality and energy. To experience a calm mind and balanced nervous system and to have an inner sense of well being, that feeling of being truly comfortable in our own body.

Panchakarma is appropriate for almost everyone except young children and those of advanced years. There are specific contradictions for Panchakarma. We are very careful at Living Ayurveda to insure that Panchakarma is an appropriate treatment for you and your present level of health.

Some people are basically healthy, yet have a specific health concern. It may be as simple as the need to pause and renew due to a hectic life. It may be the desire to insure that a genetic family health trait is kept in check so as not to develop. Perhaps there have been issues and challenges around pregnancy. Panchakarma is an opportunity to unwind and release long held toxins, worries and memories. It is a time for you to create optimal good health in all areas. A time to reflect on life and determine if the life you are living is truly good for you, and if it is not, a time to change your direction to one more positive.

Others come to Panchakarma as the result of chronic disease and seek to stop the downward spiral of health. Addressing chronic or vague health issues or those difficult to diagnosis is one of Ayurveda’s strong suites. At some point people recognize that there are consequences to a lifetime of choices that are cumulatively creating a negative impact to their health. Poor diet, over exertion, smoking, drugs, alcohol and unhealthy relationships take a toll on our health. Panchakarma is a powerful yet kind and gentle way to remove these toxic accumulations and to begin to regain your health, your prosperity and your life.

Our physical, mental and emotional environments have changed dramatically in the past 70 years, more change has occurred on the planet in this time than the total change in all of time before. The introduction of new synthetic chemicals and electromagnetic influences from the impressive array of communication technologies are only two examples of recently invented outside influences. These outside influences combined with the pace at which we live, and the not so positive lifestyle choices we sometimes make, have created an unprecedented burden on the body. The human body is an amazing, evolving organism, but it simply does not have the capacity to adequately adapt to maintain health in the face of these radical environmental changes.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization, both very conservative health agencies, report that 85% of all diseases are the result of environmental exposure. More than 86,000 new chemical compounds are been created since Word War II. Less than 1% have been tested for impact to human safety. These chemical assaults are in our food, water and air. They are in our clothes, our homes and workplace.

It is mind boggling to realize that the very first television broadcast originated from Nazi Germany only 70 years ago. Today we are bombarded continuously with multiple forms of electromagnetic communication signals; cell phones, radio, microwaves and more.

It is hard to believe, given the pace that we now live, but the concept of “being on time” did not exist 80 years ago prior to the industrial revolution and modern manufacturing coming into being. We are pushed everyday to make every minute count. Consultants charge for the services by the minute, we pay for parking by the minute, and even our news is “up to the minute”. It is little wonder that we collapse into bed at night.

And there is the impact of our personal choices. The small choices that we make everyday in regards to diet, nutrition, exercise and even relationships, make a big impact on determining our level of health and disease. As a society we are living longer, yet very few of us reach our senior years disease free. There are a number of diseases and disease processes with non-specific causes; cancer, chronic fatigue, arthritis, osteoporosis, essential tremor, various auto-immune diseases and the list continues to grow. What is the value in living longer if to only suffer poor health? And to be a burden? These small choices we make everyday are similar to a snowball rolling down hill picking up “flakes” of poor health.

Education is a central component of care at Living Ayurveda. By being actively involved with every aspect of your care, we are able to spend more time with you, learn more about you, your life, and how you live. We can then provide education that is in alignment with your life and your constitution, to help you make better day-to-day choices. You begin to understand how you can exchange foods, activities and ways of thinking that do not match who you are for ones that truly support you and begin to stop the formation of this toxic snowball.

The good news, Panchakarma is as effective today as it was 5000 years ago. Panchakarma can counter these many challenges and be an invaluable aid in keeping us strong, vital and healthy. Panchakarma offers a systemic treatment that cleans and balances every cell in our bodies. Given the proper nutrition and removal of blockages and toxins, the human body will right itself and steer a course to good health.

Why Should I Undergo Pancha-karma Treatment?

Stress, environmental pollutants and poor lifestyle choices create a toxic load on the body that—if left in the tissues and bloodstream—results in poor health.

Panchakarma  reverses this degenerative process quickly and its effects are often profound and long-lasting. Panchkarma uses a combination of massage, herbal saunas, special foods and nutritional directives, mild fasting and colon therapies to rid the body of accumulated toxins.

Your personal Panchkarma program begins with a thorough exam by an Ayurvedic Physician, which enables the doctor to recommend a program tailored to your individual health. As your Panchkarma treatments progresses, you will be given a special diet combined with certain herbs and essential oils to use at home. These will help stimulate your liver and digestive organs, helping them to purge toxins.

What Can I Expect?

The Panchakarma cleansing process affects the whole person. Thus, during the program, you may notice changes on mental, physical and emotional levels. Many of our patients experience a “healing crisis.” This is a normal part of the healing process, and may be seen as a beneficial step toward optimal health.

The Healing Crises

A healing crisis occurs when a large quantity of toxins that have been locked in our tissues for years are released into the system for elimination. As these toxins are expelled, you may experience insomnia, heaviness, aching or general discomfort and flu-like symptoms. You may also develop a feverish feeling, which is simply your body’s way of burning up toxic waste. You may notice some emotional mood swings or experience intense feelings. Do not be alarmed—this is both a natural and necessary part of tissue cleansing. Make time to visit with your Ayurvedic Physician or facilitator on a daily basis while undergoing Panchkarma treatments and they will help to walk you through the process.

Completing the PANCHKARMA Cycle

To complete your Panchkarma treatment, you will do a mild fast and special liver purge followed by a specialized rejuvenation program. You will be amazed at your increased energy level and renewed vitality. Periodic Panchkarma treatments, in addition to your individual dietary and exercise routines, will help to prevent disease and maintain optimal health.

Our Commitment to You :

Ayurveda Terms, history And treatments

ayurveda-article.jpg

Ayurveda , Ayurveda Branches, Ayurveda Treatment

AYURVEDA Ayurveda is not a new method of treatment but it is one of the oldest methods of medical science. The history of Ayurveda goes way back to 5000 years.

All throughout the process of genesis, the science of dealing with diseases and other things that deter the growth processes, has flourished in a great way. Be it the early Egyptian techniques of preserving the dead body by mummifying them, or the practice in question, AYURVEDIC techniques have always been an immensely popular knowledge. Although today we know a lot about this ancient medical practice, there are some schools of thoughts that believe it to be an obsolete and mystical practice. To increase the knowledge base and public assertion for the subject it is important to know in detail about the basic tenants and principles of the subject.

           Ayurveda; the term

The term Ayurveda is a very commonly used term and has direct links with the Devanagari script. The word of the Sanskrit origin and just like the language is considered as one of the oldest and univocally, the mother of all archaic and contemporary medical practices. The literal meaning of the word is the knowledge of the way to a long life. This comes from the two word roots, ayur and ved meaning long life and knowledge respectively. There are various evidences in history that show that this ancient practice all started from the land of the Aryan rulers, India.

           Ancient history of the practice

As mentioned earlier, the earliest examples of ayurvedic practices can be rightly ascertained to India. There are several ancient scriptures and religious manuscripts full of detailed description of the various ayurvedic practices. Most of these literary records were written over a long period of time starting as early as the Vedic period in about second millennium BCE. Out of all the Vedas, the Atharva Veda gets a special mention as the fore-bearer of all the ancient ayurvedic theories and principles. Like all other writings in the Vedas, the entire concept of Ayurveda comes from 114 hymns that are written in the Atharva Veda. Later, over the years when more and more study and research in the field started, ancient saints and philosophers like Sushruta and Charaka became intensely involved and compiled huge volumes in the forms of Samhitas defining and redefining all the ayurvedic techniques. The volume that Maharishi Sushruta compiled came to be known as the Sushruta Samhita and is now considered as the ultimate encyclopedia for all ayurvedic practioners. Because of its intimate connections with the Indian mythology and particularly the Hindu religion, some say that the technique in itself is divine and is a gift of god to the human kind. The person thought responsible for bringing this on the Earth was Dhanvantari, who was also regarded as the first doctor. Although the practice started from the ashrams of the Indian peninsula, soon this practice travelled far and wide and became an active part of all western medicines. It was the Chinese travelers and scholars like Fa Hsein who visited the courts of eminent Indian rulers and took written notes of the ways of living in these empires. Although still in its novice stages, the techniques of Rhinoplasty, cataract operation, angina pectoris, curing anal fistulas etc. were well known to the saints and doctors. These practices were so accurate for that period that the British doctors and medical practitioners even wrote a detailed description of Rhinoplasty and published in the Gentlemans magazine.

What are the basic principles used in the practice?

Now that we have an idea about what and when did it all start, it is ideal to talk about the basic functional part of the science. While most the new world holds ayurveda to be a mythical and literally magical, it has a very scientific and systematic approach to all goes within it. Ayurveda is basically the science of curing the anomalies of the body by striking a cordial balance and harmony between the body elements. The ancient scholars took the body to be composed of elements or tatvas. These were the same as the ones that constituted all other beings and objects on this planet, air, water, wind, fire and Earth. Unlike the modern practices, ayurveda classified seven elements in the body, the sapta dhatu and three humors or energy fields namely, Vata, Pitta and Kaph. These represent the five quintessential elements. For example, Vata is for wind, Pitta demarcates fire, water, and the last one, Kaph for water and earth. According to the principles of Ayurveda, a body remains in the normal working condition as long as these three humors are in a balanced form. There are elaborate descriptions as to what is the right proportion of these in the Vedas and the two Samhitas. Any discrepancy here is called a Dosh and is the root cause of all medical ailments right from common cold to more complex ones like cancer. The science behind Ayurveda tells how maintain a balance between the three and cure a disease accordingly. Unlike modern allopathic medicine, the things used to treat the person in ayurveda are purely natural. The mountains and forests of India and the neighboring countries are full of these medicinal plants. Not only herbs, plant and animal parts like roots, buds, essential oils, cow urine etc. all find extensive use in this practice. It can be safely said that it was after studying the chemical properties in the plant and animal drugs that the synthetic drugs of today were formulated. For example, morphine, which is used as a painkiller in almost all parts of the world, is actually a plant product that finds mention the Vedas as a tool to suffice pain during and after an operation.

           Sub-disciplines within the study

Like all other modern practices that have a separate branch of specialization for different genres of work, the concept of ayurveda also entails this kind of classification and there are mainly eight branched within the science. Although the practice evolved from a time when it was a trend to pass on the knowledge orally and not in a well differentiated manner, the Samhitas and the several other religious literature books show a great level of organization. Under these eight broad headings there are numerous other areas of specialization and this level of demarcation and differentiation makes the science one of the most organized and systematic ones. Given below are the sub disciplines with a brief description of each. Kayachikitsa: - it is now called Internal Medicine and is just like the modern practices, including anatomical studies of the body and organs. Shalakya tantra: - it is the study of the surgical processes and the treatment of the head and neck region that is known as Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology respectively today. It basically deals with ENT. Shalya tantra: - it the knowledge of the process of cutting the body to cure internal dysfunctions. Sushruta was a well known surgeon in this field and the Samhita gives detailed descriptions of the surgical processes to cure several diseases. Agada tantra: - it is now known as toxicology and is the study of the effects of toxins on the body. Snake bites, food poisoning etc. come under this. Bhuta Vidya (Psychiatry) - as the name itself suggests, it deals with the disorders of the brain and how to treat mental disorders. Kaumarabhritya: - it is the study of child behavior and diseases infecting children. In the modern practices, this is called Pediatrics and is a very important part of the science. Rasayana: - it is the science of rejuvenation and the ways to encourage and initiate the process of anti-aging. Chemical drugs or plant products are studied to exploit their medicinal properties. Vajikarana: - modern day Gynecology is what this branch of Vajikarana is all about. It deals with the male and female reproductive systems, disorders and sexual behavior. In short, it is the science of fertility.

Along with all these techniques of treating the ailing body or mind, ayurveda also has close links with studies like astrology (jyotish vidya), yoga, study of the medicinal properties of herbs and other plant parts etc. In around 1500 BC, there were two further more divisions or rather specializations made in the discipline. These were the School of medicine (physician) led by the eminent sage, Atreya and the second was the school of surgery piloted by the famous curator, Sushruta. These two disciplines were the corner stones for the two great medicinal epic, The Charaka and Sushruta Samhita.

Diagnostic and prognostic methods used in ayurveda

As mentioned earlier, the basic principle behind all ayurvedic practices is to maintain a balance between the three humors of the body. This is carried forward in the diagnostic methods and often starts with checking the pulse of the patient, a process called Naadi vishleshan. This step in itself says a lot about the kind of disease and the misbalance of the humors. Next is the study of certain crucial points in the body called the Marma. These are located all over the body and pressing the particular point excites the corresponding visceral organ in the body. There are in fact, 15 to 20 techniques of examining the patient with detailed description in the Charaka Samhita. Just like modern anatomical studies, a detailed knowledge about the body construction and performance of the organs is vital for a good ayurvedic doctor.

The range of treatments include the use of plant related products like turmeric, cinnamon, neem etc. and animal products like cows urine, milk and many more. Certain elements and minerals like gold, silver, copper etc. are known to have medicinal properties and find their way into a branch of Ayurveda called Rasa shashtra. Not only oral administration of medicines, ayurvedic scriptures mention procedures like massages, yoga, meditation, controlled dietary habits etc. as an important part of the whole prognostic process. Due to its close relation to these allied branches like yoga and healthy living techniques, Ayurveda is also called the Wholeness medicine.

Best Home Remedy For Swine Flu

NATURAL WAYS TO TREAT SWINE FLU (H1N1)

Today Swine flu has continued to spread and cause concern throughout the world. Governments have launched massive campaigns to create awareness among the general public about this disease. In spite of this, it continues to spread and pose a serious threat to millions of people.

Swine flu (swine influenza, hog flu or pig flu) is caused by A-H1N1 virus. The symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of regular seasonal flu. These include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. These symptoms may also be accompanied by diarrhoea and vomiting.

Swine flu can be cured with timely diagnosis and administration of right treatment.

Ayurveda, the 5000 year old medical science based on natural systems, has some excellent preventive and curative solutions to diseases such as swine flu. The most significant aspect of these measures is that they are entirely based on natural substances and, therefore, totally safe on the human body without causing any kind of side-effects..

What Is Swine Flu As Per AYURVEDA :)

According to Ayurveda, swine flu is placed under a class of diseases called Sannipataj Jvar. Sannipataj Jvar is basically triggered by an aggravation of the three Doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) and a loss of Ojas in the body. Low Ojas is lack of immunity at the physical level and absence of mental strength at the mind level. By strengthening the Ojas you can easily prevent diseases like swine flu from attacking you. Here are a few preventive tips:

Prevention:

– Maintain a safe distance from people that show evident signs of nasal congestion or flu symptoms.
– Do not greet people with a kiss or handshake.
– Do no share food, glasses or forks.
– Open and ventilate enclosed rooms.
– Keep kitchen countertops and bathrooms disinfected with bleach; disinfect toys, phones door knobs and any contact surface with alcohol.
– Visit your doctor immediately if you experience sudden high fever and cough, with headache and muscle pain.
– Avoid sudden temperature change.
– Eat fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin A and C (Carrots, papaya, orange, tangerine, lime lemon and pineapple).
– Frequently wash hands thoroughly with plenty of soap and water.

# Home Remedies To Cure Swine Flu :)

•Kwatha (Decoction): Take 5 Tulasi (basil) leaves, 4 Kali Mirch (whole black pepper) beads, 3 Laung (clove) buds and 1 teaspoonful of fresh grated Adraka (ginger). Mix them in a glass of water and boil the entire mixture until the quantity of water is halved. Filter and add a teaspoonful of honey. Your Ayurvedic decoction is ready. Take this decoction twice daily.

body meridian clock

Why Do We Abruptly Wake Or Feel ill At Certain Time Of The Day ?

The 24 hour clock is divided into 12 two-hour intervals of the Qi (vital force) moving through the organ system. During sleep, Qi is drawn inward to restore the body. This phase is completed between 1 and 3 A.M., when the liver cleanses the blood and performs a myriad of functions that prepare the body for the Qi to move outward again.

The 12 hours after the prime functioning of the liver (which would be from 3 A.M. to 3 P.M.) include the energy cycles of the organs associated with daily activity: digestion and elimination. These organs include the lungs, large intestine, stomach, spleen/pancreas, heart and small intestine.

After 3 P.M., the flow of energy again moves inward to support internal organs associated with repairing the system. The purpose of this is to circulate fluids and heat, as well as to filter and cleanse. This time affects the pericardium, triple burner (coordinates water functions and temperature), bladder, kidneys, circulation/sex and the liver.

When one organ is at its peak energy, the organ at the opposite side of the clock, 12 hours away, is at its lowest ebb. For example, between 1-3 A.M., the liver reaches its peak, doing its work to cleanse the blood. At the same time, the small intestine (the organ responsible for the absorption and assimilation of many key nutrients) is at its lowest function.

What does this mean in real life application? For starters, it logically explains why you are taxing the system when it has to deal with late night meals and snacking. The body is not programmed to accommodate the modern habit of late-night eating habits and stimulation. When we eat late at night, food is not well absorbed by the small intestine (since it is resting) and the liver has little opportunity to do its job of housekeeping.

Why do we abruptly wake or feel ill at certain times of day?

The other morning I woke up at 5:26 A.M. from a nightmare about my teeth crumbling out of my mouth! Yes, I know that’s incredibly strange – a fun fact about me is that I have insane dreams that feel real, ALL the time. Once I had a dream that I was a horse. Literally. I was walking down the avenue by my house, just trotting on by, totally fine with the fact that I had four legs. Another time I had a dream that a teacher microwaved my tongue. I’ve never been normal, per say, so I suppose it comes with the territory?!

Anyway — the night I had the teeth dream I was a) dehydrated (drinking water is SO important) and b) constipated. TMI, but it happens to the best of us. I’m pretty sure (b) was caused by (a) because warm water with ginger and lemon upon waking did the trick. Regardless, both dehydration and constipation deal with the large intestine, which correctly lines up with the hours of 5-7 A.M. How fabulous is the human body? It is always leaving us clues in the forms of symptoms. Our symptoms are our friends; they are the language in which our body speaks. That’s why I love Chinese medicine… there are always charts and guides that allow you to translate these clues into the underlying issue.

As we discussed above, each “meridian” or organ system has a two hour period where they are the primary meridian. The meridians, however, are not just related to organs. They are linked to thoughts and emotions, color, sound, seasons and other spiritual aspects as well. When the energy of a meridian is not flowing well due to a block (like stress or toxicity), you’ll find that you’ll experience a sign or symptom from the meridian involved (just like my nightmare/abrupt waking).

If you also find you are waking up at the same time each night, or falling into a slump around 3 P.M., you can look at the meridian at work and what may be happening with you.

Here is a detailed list of the function of each meridian/organ system as well as the emotions that go with it. This is very important. Sometimes if we wake up at 3 A.M., it’s simply because we have a purely physical issue, i.e. the liver is not processing waste correctly or is hindered by gallstones. However, sometimes, the physical symptoms are manifesting because of an underlying emotion. The liver is heavily associated with anger, frustration, and rage; so if you’re waking up at 3 it might be because you’re holding onto toxic emotions that you must work through.

List of meridian functions from mcuniverse.com:

3am – 5am : Lung Time

Early stirring gentle breathing
Grief
Sadness

The toxic waste from your lungs becomes loosened between 3 to 5 am, and when you awaken, this is why you cough sometimes. Your lungs are trying to expel the loosened waste. If you are coughing in the morning, this indicates that your diet and lifestyle needs tweaking in order to reduce mucus and toxicity. Feeling ill at this time can also be an indication of deep grief that must be dealt with.

5am – 7am : Large Intestine Time

Rising and defecating
Guilt
Stuck
Defensiveness

To get the day off to a good start, give yourself enough time early in the morning to honor the normal elimination function of the large intestine. The morning is the most important time to drink plenty of water and the worst time to have caffeine. Caffeine is a diuretic and takes water away from your colon to the kidneys and bladder for evacuation, but your body need water in the morning to keep up its repair and maintenance of the large intestine and colon. If you are feeling bad at this time, drink lots of water. Drinking plenty of water at this time keeps you from getting constipated, gaining weight, looking and feeling older and improves your overall health. From an emotional perspective, you may need to let go of guilt.

7am – 9am : Stomach Time

Healthy eating
Disgust
Despair

Now the flow of energy moves to the stomach stimulating hunger. You are encouraged to eat a hearty, healthy breakfast and thereby producing good amounts of long-lasting energy. Eating larger meals of the day early delivers nourishment to the small intestine when it is strongest, which aids absorption and assimilation. Issues during this time may mean that your stomach is too cold (especially since we as a Western society love salads, ice water, and smoothies!) Be sure to drink ginger tea to nourish the stomach.

9am – 11am : Pancreas/Spleen Time

Thinking and working
Jealousy/Worry
Low Self-esteem

TCM considers the Spleen the most important digestive organ, so even a late breakfast will be digested easily. On the other hand, this is also the time when allergies can show up the strongest because the Spleen is busy working with the Liver and your immune system. A healthy spleen produces antibodies when there is an infection and constantly watches the blood for invaders. Illness during this time can mean your spleen is deficient, or you are worrying/having self esteem issues. The spleen is also aided by ginger tea (Lily’s solution to everything!)

11am – 1pm : Heart Time

Meeting talking and eating
Joy
Frightfully Sad

Don’t overtax your heart at this time. You may sometimes notice a rapid heartbeat, double beats and/or skipping beats during this time period. Research shows that seventy percent of heart attacks occur during this time frame. Being full of joy, enthusiastic and restful makes the heart stronger, whereas the opposite emotions of saddness and gloom weaken the heart. Doing anything heat inducing during this time is not good for optimal heart health as the heart has an aversion to heat according to the TCM.

1pm – 3pm : Small Intestine Time

Sorting and organizing
Insecurity
Vulnerable / Gullible
Feelings of Abandonment

Have you noticed that between 1 to 3 pm you are more apt to have indigestion, pain and bloating? This shows a problem with your small intestine. Are you feeling insecure, self doubt, or abandoned? Do you have leaky gut? Bone broth soup can work wonders for gut issues and malabsorption.

3pm – 5pm : Bladder Time

Storing and reserving
associated with the Skin
Irritation
Timidity

At this time you may notice that you are tired and want a nap. Salty foods strengthen the Bladder, so drinking a cup of savory miso soup or nutrient-rich broth would be beneficial at this time.

5pm – 7pm : Kidney Time

Driving and consolidating
Fear
Terror

The feeling of being tired and wanting a nap could continue into this time frame. On the other hand when the Kidneys are healthy and working properly, you will feel energetic at this time and not tired. The kidneys are aligned with the adrenals, the glands that produce cortisol to help us spring out of bed in the morning. Early morning, from 5-7 am, is when kidney energy is weakest—a reason that people with depleted kidney energy often have trouble waking up to a new day.

7pm – 9pm : Pericardium, Circulation Sex Time

Associated with the brain, including the pituitary and hypothalamus and the reproductive organs
Socializing and flirting
Unresponsive
Hurt/Extreme Joy
Inability to Express Emotions
Depleted

Between 7 to 9 pm do you have intense cravings for sweets or processed carbohydrates that turn to sugar immediately in the system? The reason is because the Kidneys regulate the Pancreas, and if you do consume sweets during that period, you may notice lower back pain, which is a kidney symptom. The kidneys, bladder and pancreas are all parts of the same whole. If you need a nap early in the evening it is just your pancreas, as directed by your kidneys, putting you out so it can do its repairs.

9pm – 11pm : Triple Warmer Time

Associated with the Thyroid and Adrenals
Controls Metabolism
Energy Transfer and Regulates Temperature
Relaxing and Chilling
Hopelessness
Confusion, Paranoia

The Triple Warmer governs Blood Vessels and Arteries. From 9 to 11 pm the blood vessels go into repair mode. If you get headaches, feel abnormally tired or weak, this means that the blood vessels are in heavy repair.

11pm – 1am : Gall Bladder Time

Sleeping and regenerating
Bitterness
Resentment

(Related to liver, see below)

1am – 3 am: Liver Time

Deep resting and dreaming
Anger
Frustration
Rage

The Liver and Gallbladder spring into action between 11 pm to 3 am. Do you ever have nights when you can’t sleep at this time? This means that waste is not being processed by your liver and it acts as an irritant to your body causing insomnia and frayed nerves. Your brain just won’t stop. You may need to deal with unresolved anger and grudges towards others.
Understanding that every organ has a repair/maintenance schedule to keep on a daily basis offers you the opportunity to learn how to treat yourself for improved health and well-being. It also allows you to identify exactly which organ system or emotion needs strengthening/resolving. Always use your symptoms and body cues as a guide, and if you make a connection above, such as that you get sleepy between 5-7pm, don’t hesitate to research what you can do to strengthen that meridian (which would be the Kidneys). A great solution to deficient kidneys is having a sweet potato for breakfast!

Make sure to look at the emotional aspect too. If you’re sleepy during kidney time, do you have any fears holding you back from reaching your true potential? Are you afraid of rejection? Failure? Addressing this emotion will strengthen the organ and improve your physical health forever.
