Kidney treatment refers to the treatment of chronic kidney failure. In this disease one or both kidneys stop working. The kidneys are responsible for filtering waste from the blood. Eventually, when the kidneys lose most of their function, dangerous amounts of fluid and waste can accumulate in the body.
Treatment for chronic kidney disease focuses on slowing the damage in the kidneys. If chronic kidney disease is not controlled, it can progress to end-stage renal failure.
End-stage kidney failure can only be treated through external filtering of waste (dialysis) or through a kidney transplant.
