Headache is a pain in any part of the head or in the upper neck. This pain arises from the tissues and structures that surround the skull or brain. A thin layer of tissue (periosteum) surrounds the bones and muscles. In addition, this thin layer of tissue covers the surface of the brain, spinal cord, arteries, and veins. Swelling or irritation can cause headaches. This pain can be mild and intense. This can happen for a short time and also for a longer period of time.
